The Swiss Club History
About the Swiss Club in Cairo.
The Swiss Community Association is a registered NGO in Egypt. Our mission:
– Represent the Swiss Community in Egypt
– Contribute to the preservation of the rich heritage of the Swiss in Egypt
– Promote the clubhouse ‘Swiss Club Cairo’ in Kit Kat as a meeting place for the Swiss community
– Organise social and cultural activities that are attractive to a wide range of Cairo’s cosmopolitan society.
In doing so, we want to emphasise traditional Swiss values: Open-mindedness, quality, fairness and reliability.
The ‘Swiss Club Cairo’ is located in a fabulously beautiful historic property in Kit Kat in the center of Cairo. We employ around 28 people for garden restaurant, property maintenance and general administration.
The Swiss Community Association maintains and operates the Swiss cemetery in Old Cairo.
Discover our story: About the club and its history
We are the successor organization of various associations that have been active in Egypt since the beginning of the 20th century. The Swiss Cemetery was founded in 1923. The Swiss Club property in Kit Kat was originally the private villa of the Swiss entrepreneur Henri Meyer. In his will he had bequeathed it to the Swiss community and we took it over in 1947. There is a decree from the responsible ministry from 1958, which recognizes the existence of the “Association de la Maison Suisse” Since 2003, the association has been an NGO under Egyptian law. In 2023, the association was renamed the “Swiss Community Association”.
